Lazo y Arigatou- A year after the earthquake and the tsunami 29.March.2012

The 11th of March was an important day for Japan and Japanese people. It´s been a year since a massive earthquake and a tsunami attacked the north of Japan. There were many events held by not only Japanese people but many who cared about Japan.

In Madrid, some young Japanese artists got together and held a small memorial event, LAZO y ARIGATOU. Lazo means bond in Spanish and arigatou means thank you in Japanese. During this one year, Japan learnt how important the connection between people and to help each other. Many people aroung the world also try to support in many ways. We wanted to thank to all who cared about us and helped us.

Experimental Calligraphy participated in the event and performed. The letter is KIZUNA means bond in Japanese and was the word of the year 2011 in Japan.

You may have notice my special brush… a mop. Apparently a mop is invented by Spain and as I needed a big brush for the event and the theme of the event was “bond”, I thought it´d be interesting to use something Spanish.

Of course I gave the mop a little trick to shape like a calligraphy brush and it worked!

Lazo y Arigatou – Un Año Después del Catástrofe 2.March.2012

El día 11 de marzo 2011 a las 14:46, un terremoto de M8.8 atacó al parte Pacífico de Touhoku. En seguido vino Tsunami, que llevó todas las casas, escuelas, barcos y queridos familias. 6 prefecturas y 62 cuidades y pueblos se desaparecieron o se hundieron debajo de agua, en total 561 km² de area está ahora cubierta con escombros.

En el último año, mucha gente de todos los países del mundo le ha apoyado a Japón. Aquí en España también mucha gente se preocupaba por nosotros y nos apoyaba.

El día 11 de marzo 2012, hace justo 1 año de ese catástrofe. Japón está todavía muy lejos de la recuperación, el problema de la radioactividad sigue. Pero cada día un poquito mejor, por lo menos los japoneses no dejan de tener la esperanza, son fuertes.

Nosotros estamos aquí en Madrid, estamos lejos de nuestro país, pero igual deseamos su recuperación de Japón. También queremos agradecer a todo el mundo por su apoyo durante este tiempo. Así, hemos decidio organizar un pequeño evento “Lazo y Arigato” para el Japón y para todos que nos han ayudado. Lazo es “Kizuna (絆)” en japonés y fue la palabra del año 2011. En este evento yo misma participo como calígrafa, espero veros ahí.
